Discovery of a Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxy
We have discovered a Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) galaxy and identified it with an ultrasoft X-ray source (RX 215319-1514) detected with ROSAT . We present its X-ray and optical spectral characteristics. Its redshift is found to be 0.0778±0.0002. Its optical spectrum shows fairly strong Fe II emission lines, and its X-ray spectrum has an extremely steep power-law index of Γ ≥4, making it an ext...
متن کاملOptical Properties of Radio-selected Narrow Line Seyfert 1 Galaxies
We present results from the analysis of the optical spectra of 47 radio-selected narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s). These objects are a subset of the First Bright Quasar Survey (FBQS) and were initially detected at 20 cm (flux density limit ∼ 1 mJy) in the VLA FIRST Survey. We run Spearman rank correlation tests on several sets of parameters and conclude that, except for their radio proper...
متن کاملThe optical variability of the narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxy IRAS 13224 - 3809
We report on a short optical monitoring programme of the narrow-line Seyfert 1 Galaxy IRAS 13224-3809. Previous X-ray observations of this object have shown persistent giant variability. The degree of variability at other wavelengths may then be used to constrain the conditions and emission processes within the nucleus. Optical variability is expected if the electron population responsible for ...
متن کاملA Population of Radio-loud Narrow Line Seyfert 1 Galaxies with Blazar-like Properties?
Blazars with strong emission lines were found to be associated mostly with broad-line type 1 Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN). Hitherto, evidence for blazars identified with Narrow Line Seyfert 1 (NLS1) AGN was limited to very few individual cases. Here we present a comprehensive study of a sample of 23 genuine radio-loud NLS1 galaxies which have the radio-loudness parameters, the ratio of radio (2...
متن کاملWas the Narrow Line Seyfert 1 RGB J 0044 + 193 ever radio loud ?
We show new radio data and a re-analysis of old data for the Narrow Line Seyfert 1 (NLSy1) galaxy RGB J0044+193. This galaxy has previously been suggested to be both radio loud, and highly variable in the radio. As most NLSy 1 galaxies are radio quiet, this was interpreted as possible evidence that this AGN's jet was beamed toward the observer. This object was probably never either radio loud a...
